When we are children we dream of what we will be in our adult life.  If a little boy wants to be a fireman, he plays at being a fireman.  People understand that he is just using his imagination to be a pretend fireman.  And later in life, as a young adult, this same one can be trained to be a real fireman.  No man can become a fireman without entering the training, and then the work of being a fireman. We in the body of Christ should also dream of our call in Him.  It may be that our beginnings are small, like a child’s.  We may find our imagination filled with what our calling should look like.  But if those who train us are patient, we will learn our calling well.  We cannot know how to do what we are called to do unless we train, practice, and work at it. We who are mature ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not discourage them (Rom 15:1).  In many circles there is a feeling that failures indicate that one is just puffed up and seeking his own importance.  But this is not so, for just as the child had to first use his imagination to feel out the work he desired to do, so one who is training in his calling will first use his thoughts to feel out what he should do.  Yet he is one step closer to truly knowing how to do it; he has the Holy Spirit as his Teacher.  To encourage our brothers in their learning process and come alongside them as mentors is to be an extension of the Lord’s hand in that one’s life.
