Verse of the Week 11/24/08
by Shayne White - 11.24.08
Psalm 100 A Psalm of Thanksgiving. 1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. (NKJV)
This is the time when Americans celebrate our traditional Thanksgiving. We ought to remember that we’re not just celebrating a time to get together with family, or “being thankful” that the pumpkin pie is sweet or that the turkey is nice and fat. Whom should we thank during this holiday? The One that the Pilgrims thanked when they sat down to their first feast: the God Who made it all possible! Of course the Pilgrims had plenty of good reason to be thanking the Indians as well for saving them from starvation and disaster (and not attacking them), but it is worthy to consider that the Indians probably wouldn’t have been so eager to help them if Indians like Squanto hadn’t been worshiping the God of Israel! God made peace between the two nations during that time, and though one might wish that peace had been able to continue for a longer time, nevertheless it was God who made it happen. We continue to have much to be thankful for, even in spite of economically hard times, because His Spirit is freely available to us no matter what the size of our bank accounts are. God does not take material possessions into consideration when pouring out His blessings; only love and obedience in the heart are what He measures by!

cool perspective, Shayne. Gratitude needs to be pointed… and ultimately towards God, huh? Thanks fo reminding us!
