Recently on my personal blog, I talked about the timing of important moves in your life and how you have to wait for God to “release” you into the next stage of your journey. It’s important to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit so you can discern when to make that first step or when to hold back just a little longer. Sometimes it seems so hard to see. How do you know if God has released you?

One way that I’ve experienced and I’ve heard others talk about is when everything just starts to line up. You meet people unexpectedly. You hear the same message from multiple sources. Conditions change, the atmosphere shifts. Something inside of you clicks and you know what you have to do.

Oftentimes, this all happens very rapidly. It’s like you’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for weeks, months — even years — and then within a short amount of time everything begins to go topsy-turvy. It doesn’t even have to make sense or look like what you were anticipating at first…if you stay humble and submit yourself to God, you’ll just know in your spirit that the time is right.

Because moments in life like this are generally outside of our control and cannot be produced by force of will, we don’t have the faith to wait for them. We don’t believe God can line up our lives and release us in a moment. Yet it is so important to entrust the Lord with our time and our energy, knowing that He will indeed bring about this shift when the time is right. You just have to stay focused, stay in prayer, stay submitted — and keep your eyes open for those tell-tale signs that indicate everything is beginning to line up.
