You are the strategic object of your Father’s affections! He planned on adopting you from ages past, before He created the world!(Eph1:4,5) Your existence is not a result of happenstance, evolution, or the designs of man. He dreamed of you in ages long ago! (Ps.139:16) He …WANTED …YOU!
And He wanted you as a Son…as a Daughter: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13 NASU)
But this great adoption did not stop there. He invites us into the “Family Business” as well. Paul says: “Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2Cor 5:18-20 NASU
Think of it! Our Dad, the Ancient of Days, invites us into His Noble, Gracious Mission on Planet Earth! We are not just “The Object of His Affection” placed proudly on a shelf. He invites us into the nuts and bolts of His Strategy for World Domination (through reconciliation)!
In fact, in a manner of speaking, our Father limits Himself to us! Look at how Paul says it: “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!’” (Rom 10:14-15 NASU) God waits for US to spread His fame! God waits for US to demonstrate the Good News of Jesus.
Paul himself, after being knocked off his donkey, was confronted by the Lord Jesus. But He would not preach the gospel to Paul! Jesus told Paul to go into the city and wait for someone to tell him what to do! (Acts 22:10) Jesus could have easily preached the entire gospel to Paul right there! But His PARTNERSHIP with humans in this ministry of reconciliation was more important!
Sometimes we pray, asking Jesus for Revival to touch our city. This is needed. However, He is also bound to His partnership with us. Because of this Partnership He will not act until WE ACT. (James 2:26 “Faith without words is dead.”) He waits for us to step out in faith so that He can back us up with POWER!
This is the Family Business!
This is our noble call!
