“The voice of the Lord is upon the waters.” (Ps. 29:3) the Lord is speaking to the masses of people! He is not silent in our city streets. He IS speaking to those outside our church sanctuaries; outside the family of true believers. His voice is THUNDERING upon the nations! Make no mistake about it!
As I saw this, I became dissatisfied to huddle in any “safe,” churchy environment; dissatisfied to ONLY enjoy the Lord’s voice in a Sunday service. I prayed, “We want to see what YOU, Father, are saying in our city streets! Give US ears to hear; give US hearts sensitive to Your transmission to the masses.”
We know the Lord does not just speak English or Spanish either. He speaks in impressions, vision, dreams, circumstances, mental pictures, etc. He is ALWAYS transmitting. Let’s pay attention to His broadcast, shall we? Can we set aside our daily agenda briefly and just listen, inviting Him to speak what is on His heart?
“The voice of the Lord breaks …in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.” (Ps.29:5) Lebanon is symbolic of the Pride of man! (Isaiah2:12,13) God’s voice terrorizes our pride so much, it skips like a scared calf or like a wild ox when it is spooked! Beloved, let us turn into the Voice of our God. Let us allow His voice to have its full effect on our Soul! (1Sam.3:9)
In the Wilderness – the place of testing and purification – the Lord’s voice purifies as with FIRE, burning up impurities. (Ps.29:7,8) He speaks to purify our deep heart motives and lifestyle! His voice SHAKES the wilderness, toppling our idols until God alone has our full trust and confidence!
“His voice makes the deer to calve.” (Ps.29:9) There are some things we hold dear that need to be aborted (like Ishmaels); other things need help being born (Isaacs)! Can we wait before Him and allow Him to SPEAK to us about our Ishmaels and our Isaacs? Can we surrender to His voice, listen for His assessments?
“He strips the forest bare.” (Ps. 29:9) Wood (from the forest) is what MAN uses to build. Our God’s voice exposes man’s futility in his own efforts. We see the need to work where God is working; and cease from our own efforts. As we sit at His feet and listen, He will speak empowering words that short circuit our own “best efforts!”(Hebrews 4:10) We will find His words like bread; so nourishing we live by every word that proceeds from His mouth! (Matt.4:4) Beloved, let us listen!
Because, “in His temple everything says, ‘Glory!’” (Ps.29:9) This is the supreme focal point! ALL is to His Glory! Every enterprise WILL point towards His excellence, beauty, splendor!
This is end to which He SPEAKS.
Father, give us ears to HEAR!
