36b “Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. 38But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” 39Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. (John 10:36-39)
This is no less an important point today. We who believe in Jesus can go around claiming that Jesus is God’s Son and the Bible is the Word of God, and many will believe—to their credit and reward. But those who are stubborn, like Doubting Thomas, need a little extra proof, and God said in His Word over and over again that He is willing to give it. If you will not believe in the God of the Bible at first, then believe the miracles, so that you will know that Jesus is our Lord and Savior who created all things. And I’m not talking about the fact that a bunch of miracles were recorded in the Bible—I mean miracles that are taking place right in front of the unbeliever’s eyes.
Of course, verse 37 is also of great importance here, which is a verse that the Church-at-Large should take care to study. We cannot expect the world to believe in Jesus or even the miracles if we do not put on the nature of Christ Himself as His representatives. If our lives are full of arrogance, hypocrisy, sin, hate, self-enrichment, corruption, or accusatory judgment of others in the manner of the Pharisees, the world is going to balk at anything we say or do. We are supposed to be the Light of the World, as Jesus called us. The world needs to see a Light it is not going to see anywhere else, full of love, compassion, humility, eagerness to help, healing prayer, prophecies, deliverance, and undying faith.
