Verse of the Week 11/17/08

This is the first of many upcoming “Verse of the Week” postings. Enjoy reading a bit of God’s Word each Monday!

24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! 26 Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. (Matthew 10:24-26 NKJV)

A similar verse is found in Luke 6: “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40) It seems that Jesus is making it clear that His followers are supposed to be like Him in every way, down to beliefs, attitude, faith, love, authority, humility, and yes, power. As a teacher trains students to know the same things the teacher knows, and scientists train other scientists to perpetuate knowledge and rise to even greater accomplishments, so Jesus was teaching us to carry out greater works than even He did. If we were placed into Jesus’ shoes, how would we act and behave?
