2008: An Important Year

We’re hearing from many different Christian sources that 2008 is going to be a year of breakthroughs. Exactly how many, and how deep, is yet to be determined; still, the message the prophets have been receiving from the Lord has been consistent. Last year was a year of preparation: prayer movements, mobilization, seeking the Lord. Of course we are still supposed to be doing all that, but it seems that 2008 may be the year that reaps what 2007 sowed.

Of course, even the secular world in America knows this will be an important year in any case, for one reason, at least: the elections. This is the first time since 1952 (that was over fifty years ago, folks) that either an incumbent President or a Vice-President has not run for office. This is a pretty important election by all counts: nobody knows, really, who will win the nominations of any of the parties, let alone the general election.

But this is not the time or place to be advising you on which candidate to vote for. Instead, I’m urging you to take a step back from all the news media rants and the debates. Contrary to what some people might have you believe, this election is not the end of the world. A President will be elected for only four years. The world lives on. Most importantly, God lives on! Presidents come and go, even nations come and go; but the Lord’s reign spans all empires and kingdoms. I don’t like to think about it, but there will be a day when even the United States will fall. I don’t know to whom. But whatever happens, the Lord still lives, Jesus’ blood covers all sins, and His grace is eternal.

The point is that even though elections in the U.S. are important issues, it is not good to rest all your hopes on the government and who runs it. I see too many pundits, on both the left and the right, who act like if we only get the right candidates and legislation, everything will be a peaceful utopia. No, no, and NO! Only the Lord brings peace; only the Lord brings hope; only the Lord brings salvation. The government rests on His shoulders; He is the Prince of Peace. He is the One to place your hopes in. So if things don’t go the way you would like, seek the Lord instead!
