The Jesus Culture team sponsored the Real Summer of Love, a series of events down in San Francisco commemorating the Summer of Love of 1967—though I should say the events were not in honor of the 60′s, but in defiance of the demonic forces that were unleashed during the counterculture of sex, drugs, and rock’n'roll. (We’ve kept the “rock’n'roll” part and changed it to Jesus, Holy Spirit, and Rock’n'Roll.)
Anyway…you’ve already read about when a crew from Grace went down to Justin Herman Plaza in S.F. to pray, prophecy, and minister. The following Saturday, August the 11th, was the last and final San Francisco event (Cindy Jacobs came to Berkeley in September, but that was not in S.F.—I’ll tell about it in a future post.). This event was in two parts: first a morning parade through the Golden Gate Park panhandle, then an afternoon gathering at Sharon Meadows where there were music, worship, praying, and intersession for San Francisco. On one side of Sharon Meadows is a place called “Hippie Hill” which I guess was a big meeting place for revolutionists back in the 60′s. It made sense that, forty years later, they would choose this spot to gather Christians together—and it wasn’t just Christians from the Bay Area. There were Jesus-followers from all over the country, including as far away as South Carolina. This was BIG and it was TOTALLY ROCKING, MAN!
I (Shayne), Kathy Cia, and Diane Luman rode down in the morning for the parade. We had Jane Chua with us: she’s a prophetic evangelist, originally from Malaysia, who travels around dangerous countries in the near- and far-east preaching the Gospel and sharing Jesus’ love. She’s been in a lot of sticky situations in places where Christianity, or sharing Christ, is illegal, but she keeps on doing what she does because she’s investing in Heaven. It was wonderful to spend the day with her and see her perspective on what was happening that day.

We gathered first at the east end of the panhandle at ten o’clock. We waited about an hour for more people to arrive, and during that time we heard stories from a man who used to do a lot of evangelism all over the world during the 60′s and 70′s. (I forget his name—if someone wants to remind me, please do!)
At eleven we started off! We walked through the panhandle proclaiming Jesus’ authority over the city and praying for God’s mercy. It was wonderful to hear His name in that city.

Around noon we arrived at Sharon Meadows, where others who had skipped the parade had already gathered. We joined them and settled ourselves on the lawn as the worship bands started. There were several bands from different parts of the U.S. represented, and sometimes they invited some people up on stage to share testimonies of what God had done in their lives. Sometimes we went around praying for each other in the audience, or whatever the Holy Spirit directed us to do.
